Fxtec Pro1 X
🦔 🦔 🦔
shh, this is a secret unfinished draft that I'll try to fill in as I fix things.
A few days back ago an Android version of the Clicks BlackBerry-style keyboard, including a pretty snazzy one for a foldable phone. That lead me on a rabbit hole that made me discover that some of the people who worked on that also worked on this niche smartphone I got off a crowdfunding website ages ago.
The Fxtec Pro1 X. Or rather, F(x)tec. That's a little too much branding, though, so Fxtec it is.
Now, my phone died. It'd show no signs of life, wouldn't boot, nothing. Apparently this slider phone followed the footsteps of a different very beloved Linux hacker phone in allowing itself to lose so much battery it wouldn't have enough to actually start the charging process.
I tossed it in a drawer and there it waited until I went on that Clicks rabbit hole and randomly came across a very silly fix for the battery. So, some rubberbands later, the phone came back to life.
It's a pretty neat little gadget. Android is pretty interesting these days, especially on hacker-friendly devices like this one. I can switch it over to tablet UI mode. I can run get a very nice Linux shell on it and even run VS Code natively.
